This feature allows you to save a cut list in Tekla PowerFab. After a cut list is saved you can identify any changes that affect the cut list, quickly re-print a cut list, and track the completion.

Create a Cut List

In order to create a cut list the production control job must be combined and linked to material in inventory, either in stock or on a purchase order. A cut list cannot be generated from requisition material.

In a production control job there is a new menu group: Production Control -> Review. It contains the following options:

  • Cut Lists – Opens the screen described below.
  • Production Status – Summarizes the piece tracking and load tracking information.
  • TFS Details – Shows the details of the material used on the job and links to the associated heat certs. See the Document Index manual for more information.
  • Compare to Combining Job – Compares the production control material to the advanced bill of materials.
  • Compare to Estimating Job – Compares the piece tracking completion time with the estimating job.

In a production control job you can access the cut lists by selecting the menu option Production Control > Review > Cut Lists. That brings up the following screen:

Click the New Cut List button to begin creating a new cut list.

On the filter screen you can restrict the items that will appear on the cut list. In this example the Shape, Grade, & Size filter has been set to L A36 4 x 3 1/2 x 3/8.

After selecting the desired filters click the Make Report button. For this example select the Shop PC/PO Cutting List report.

Click the View button to confirm that the information on the cut list is correct:

If the information is correct then print any required cut list reports and click the Save Cut List button highlighted below:

Image

That brings up a screen where you must enter "Cut List Description" to identify the cut list. There are also options to enter a "Date Required", which is the date that the cut list must be completed, and to Lock Cut List. Click Save To Cut List.

When you exit the report screen the Cut List screen will automatically be updated with the new cut list: If you locked the cut list, the name will be highlighted in red.

A cut list can also be created through a production control job by selecting the menu option: Production Control > Purchasing > Reports.

Using that option you can select the filters, view the report, and save the cut list the same way as described above.

Each time a cut list is saved the data is compared to the previously saved cut lists so ensure that the same cutting details are not saved to more than one cut list.

For this example I clicked the New Cut List button again and this time selected L A36 6 x 3 1/2 x 1/2, L A36 4 x 4 x 3/8 and the previously added L A36 4 x 3 1/2 x 3/8 as the Shape, Grade, & Size filter. Even though the 4 x 3 1/2 x 3/8 angles are included in the filter they do not appear on the cut list since they are already on another cut list. Click the Save Cut List button.

The first cut list appears in the drop-down box. You have the option to:

  • Selecting an existing cut list. This will add the new cutting details into that cut list.
  • Enter a new cut list description. This will create a new cut list.

For this example a second cut will be created with the description L6 L4 example.

Viewing Cut Lists

There are two ways to open the Cut List screen:

  1. From a production control job select the menu option Production Control > Review > Cut Lists. This will show the cut lists for that one job.
  2. Select the menu option Maintenance > Production Control > Cut Lists. That will bring up an included/not- included selection of production control job. Select one or more jobs and click OK. The cut list screen will open showing the cut lists from all jobs selected.

The fields shown on the cut list table are:

  • Cut List Description – Name given to the cut list. This can be changed by clicking the Set Description button on the bottom of the screen.
  • Date/Time Created – Date and time that the cut list was originally created. This value cannot be changed.
  • Date Req – Date that the cut list must be completed. If a date required has not been entered then this field will be highlighted in yellow. If the date required has passed and the cut list has not been completed then it will be highlighted in red.
  • Total – Total number of cutting details on the cut list.
  • Comp – Number of cutting details that have been cut.
  • Rem – Number of cutting details remaining to be cut.
  • Val Req – Number of cutting details that must be validated, this will be described later in this document. If this number is greater than 0 then it will be highlighted in yellow.
  • Inval – Number of cutting details that have been invalidated, this will be described later in this document. If this number is greater than 0 then it will be highlighted in red.
  • Date/Time Completed – The date and time that the last cutting detail on the cut list has been completed. If the cut list has been completed then the date and time will be highlighted in green.

Navigation Tree

On the left side of the cut list screen is a navigation tree where you can drill-down to find the cut list you are looking for. In the current example there are two cut lists:

To find the cut list(s) that have items with the Main Mark 1B1, click the plus (+) sign next to Main Mark and then select 1B1. That will show only the cut lists that have items with that main mark.

If that selection still included multiple cut lists you can drill down further. Click the plus(+) sign next to 1B1 and a new selection of fields will appear. You can continue drilling down on any permutation of the fields: Job, Shape, Grade, Dimensions, Main Mark, Piece Mark, Sequence and Lot.

Cut List Details

To view the details of a cut list, select one or more cut lists in the list and click the Details button on the bottom of the screen. You can also double-click the cut list to open the Cut List Details screen.

The same Navigation Tree is available on this screen as the one on the main cut list screen. Here you can use the Navigation Tree to drill down to the specific cutting detail that contains the items you are looking for.

To view the information of a cutting detail click the Details button on the bottom of the screen. You can also double- click the cutting detail to open this screen.

Validating a Cut List

After a cut list is created there may be changes in the job that affect the cut list. In the following example, a1 shown in the cutting detail below has a length of 1’-4 7/8. If a revision changes the length to 1’-3 then this cutting detail is no longer valid. Tekla PowerFab will automatically detect that a change has been made that affects the cut list.

Image
12b.png

On the Cut List screen the Val Req column will show that 1 cutting detail requires validation.

The Cut List Details screen shows the specific cutting detail that requires validation.

Image
14.png

Click the Validate button on the bottom of either the Cut List or Cut List Details screens to validate the cut list. In this case Tekla PowerFab will update the cut list and it will be re-validated.

If the length of the item was made in error, the cutting detail can be re-validated:

  1. Change the length back to 1’-4 7/8.
  2. On the Cut List Details screen select the Invalidate cutting detail and click the Re-Validate button on the bottom of the screen. If the current information matches up with the cutting detail information then it will be re- validated.

If you wish you can delete the invalidated cutting detail. Select it in the table and click the Delete button on the bottom of the screen.

To re-print the cut list with the current information, click the Cut List Report button on the bottom of the Cut List screen.

Processing Cuts

A cut can be processed directly on the Cut List Details screen:

  1. Select the cutting detail that has been cut.
  2. Click the Cut button on the bottom of the screen. The information of the cutting detail will be shown as well as a small screen where you can enter the cut details.
  3. The PO # and Heat # will default to the material currently reserved for this cutting detail. You can select the PO # and Heat # of the material actually used for this cut. This will keep your inventory accurate and correctly record the inventory material for the items in the cutting detail. You can also enter the actual amount of drop if it is different than the calculated amount as well as the location and secondary location that the drop is return to.
  4. Click the TFS button to perform the cut.

In this example both bars have now been cut in the "L6 L4 example" cut list. On the Cut List screen the Comp column will reflect that both cutting details have been completed.

The cut list will also be updated if the take-from-stock is done using one of the following features:

  1. Inventory – TFS button. Select Yes to “Update the production control job with the TFS?”
  2. Inventory -> ORD/PDC TFS -> Production Control TFS – Selected menu option.
  3. Production Control -> TFS Entry menu option.
  4. Production Control -> Purchasing -> TFS menu option.
  5. Inventory interface with barcode software.

In each of those features, when the take-from-stock is processed Tekla PowerFab will detect if the cutting details are on a cut list. If they are on a cut list then then the completion is updated just as shown above when the cut is performed on the Cut List Details screen.

Also note in the previous image, when all cutting details (that have not been invalidated) on a cut list have been completed the Date/Time Completed field will show the date and time that the last one was cut.

To view the details of the material used for each part:

  1. Open the production control job and select the menu option Production Control > Reports.
  2. Click Make Report.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the report list and open one of the TFS Details reports (TFS Details – Piece Mark Heat Report in this example).
  4. If the TFS Details reports are not in your list, click the Edit button at the top of the screen. To move a report to the Included table, select it in the Not Included table. Click the button with the right-pointing arrow (>) to move it to the Included table. Click the Save button when you have added all of the reports you want.
