Shipping Routes Walkthrough
With Shipping Routes, PowerFab assumes all items originate at the fabricators shop and will complete shipping at the jobsite – no shipping route is needed when there are no other destinations. When other destinations are required, a shipping route needs to be assigned to those parts. The pieces are then allowed to be shipped in the assigned routed order.
We will review the following steps:
- Create a shipping Route
- Assign parts to the route
- Load truck for first destination
- Load Truck for 2nd destination
- Return Items
- Ship to jobsite
Create a Shipping Route
Click to highlight the Production Control job, then click the ‘Edit’ button.
The Shipping route Steps are these:
- Name the route
- Name and save the destination group.
- Add all required Firms to the destination group.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all destinations
- Save route
A different window pop up appears for each step. The basic path is always the same: Name the route, name and save the destination groups, then save the route.
Each step is shown by screenshots and description.
Click to highlight the Production Control job, then click the ‘Edit’ button.
In the Production Control job edit window, click the ‘Shipping Routes’ button.
Click the ‘New’ button at the bottom right of the ‘Shipping Routes Maintenance’ window.

Summary
We have completed the step by step for the following shipping activity:
- Built a shipping Route
- Assigned parts to the route
- Loaded trucks for first destination
- Loaded Trucks for 2nd destination, marked ‘Return’
- Return Items
- Shipped to jobsite
Each load must be shipped in the order of the assigned route. When shipping locations are not executed in the routed order, those parts will not be available in the ‘material’ window for selection. The last shipment prior to Jobsite shipment must be ‘Returned’. The ‘Return’ function verifies parts have returned to the shop, making them available to load with all jobsite bound items.
